He was the Superintendent of New Bedford Public Schools for the last 5 years, and served as the Superintendent of Randolph Public Schools (Randolph, MA) for 4 years. Prior to Massachusetts, Mr. Anderson was an Assistant Superintendent in the Washington D.C. Public School System for 3 years and was the founding Principal/Executive Director of a grade 7-12 charter school in Chicago’s far southside neighborhood of Altgeld Gardens. He spent the bulk of his time as an educator in Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland’s largest school system, where he taught high school English, was a head track and field and cross-country coach, and served as an assistant principal and principal at the high school level.
Mr. Anderson has led and supervised schools that ranked in the top 2% of US schools nationally and under his leadership student attendance, graduation rates and overall performance on state assessments increased with more students matriculating to colleges and universities. Notable accomplishments include Randolph Public Schools exiting Underperforming Level 4 status after more than 10 years at the beginning of Mr. Anderson’s 3rd year as superintendent. During his tenure in New Bedford, graduation rates reached 90%, their highest on record.
Mr. Anderson served on a number of boards and committees including the YMCA Southcoast Board of Directors, the Bristol County Community College Advisory Board, and represented superintendents on the M.A.S.S Legislative Committee, Racial, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Directors. He was honored with the MASS President’s Award in May 2022 and the Mass Insight Leadership Award in May 2023.
Mr. Anderson was a student-athlete during his time earning his BA from the University of Rhode Island and went on to earn his Master’s degree from Howard University in Washington, DC.
