East Hartford Public Schools is excited to welcome our Kindergarten families! Your child is about to take an exciting step in his/her education. We look forward to beginning a collaborative partnership between your home and the school. We offer a full-day kindergarten program for East Hartford resident children who are age five on or before January 1st of the kindergarten year. The information below will help you plan for kindergarten registration.
When do I need to register?
Kindergarten registration for the following year begins on April 1st. For planning purposes, we encourage parents to complete registration by June 1st. Children who are 4 years old can register for kindergarten if they will be 5 years old on or before January 1st of the kindergarten year.
How do I register?
1. Go to the District Enrollment Web Page
2. Complete the pre-registration Student Information Form
3. Follow instructions in the follow-up email to establish a PowerSchool Parent Account and link to your student or add the student to your existing Parent Account
4. Sign in to your PowerSchool Parent Account. Complete all online forms in FORMS--ENROLLMENT
5. Bring residency, medical, and other documents to Central Registration, 734 Tolland Street. Appointments are recommended.
Note: Registration cannot be processed until online registration is complete.
How do I find out what school my child will attend?
East Hartford Public Schools has eight K-5 elementary schools. School assignment is determined by a student's home address. Proof of residency must be demonstrated at time of registration (and is subject to review at any time thereafter).
If my child currently attends ECLC at Hockanum School, do I need to register for kindergarten?
No, students who are currently enrolled in pre-school programs at ECLC Hockanum School do not need to re-register for kindergarten. The child's records will be transferred his/her new school.
However, if your child will not attend kindergarten in East Hartford Public Schools, we ask that you notify ECLC as soon as possible.
What do I need to bring to Central Registration?
Once the online forms are complete, please make an appointment to bring the following to Central Registration:
1. Proof of child's age: birth certificate, passport, baptism, court document
2. Photo ID of parent/guardian registering the student
3. Proof of residency in East Hartford. For a list of acceptable residency documents, click here.
4. Current State of CT Health Assessment Form indicating date of last physical and list of immunizations. If not yet available, the Health Form must be provided to the school nurse BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
Where can I learn more about the kindergarten program?
Parent/guardians of incoming kindergarten students are invited to attend kindergarten orientation, which occurs during each school's open house in late August. During kindergarten orientation, you will be able to meet the school principal, some of the wonderful teachers, and hear more details of the kindergarten program.
When will I know who my child's teacher is?
In late August, classroom assignments will be posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. As this is an important method of communication, please be sure to keep all phone numbers and email addresses up to date.
