For the first time in three years, East Hartford welcomed back guest readers for Jumpstart's annual Read for the Record Day in partnership with the United Way.
83 volunteers gathered at the East Hartford Cultural and Community Center on October 27 to hear from Congressman John Larson, East Hartford Mayor Mike Walsh, Representative Jeff Currey, Superintendent Nate Quesnel and United Way President and CEO Eric Harrison before dispersing to K-3 classrooms around the district.
Read for the Record's goal is to have the most people reading the same book on the same day to children across the globe. This year's book is "Nigel and the Moon" by Antwan Edy. The guest readers shared the story then joined the students for a fun activity.
EHPS Family and Community Partnership Coordinator Alexis Safo-Agyeman said, "This event really showed how amazing our community is. We had EHPS alumni, CCSU aspiring teachers, volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce and more all reading with our students and helping our classroom teachers with coloring and cutting. The kids were so excited, they didn't want the volunteers to leave."
