East Hartford Adult Education Student and Leader Win CAACE Awards
The Connecticut Association for Adult & Continuing Education (CAACE) has awarded Phyllis A. Dorman of East Hartford the Adult Learner Scholarship Award for 2022. The specific scholarship received is the Dr. Tina Jeter Memorial Scholarship.
Ms. Dorman graduated from East Hartford Adult & Continuing Education in June 2021 from the National External Diploma Program. After four years of hard work and perseverance, Ms. Dorman proved that no barriers would keep her from obtaining her high school diploma.
Dorman said, “I have always wanted to obtain my high school diploma, but it always seemed there were so many obstacles. After four years with adult education, I was able to forge ahead, tackle all of the problems and achieve my dream. I was able to prove to everyone, the staff, my friends and my family, that I could do it. And I did!".
“Ms. Dorman’s story is motivational and she, herself, is a role model for anyone who lacks a high school diploma and is nervous about going back to school,” said Dr. Anthony Mangiafico, Principal of East Hartford Adult & Continuing Education.
This is the fifth year in a row that East Hartford Adult & Continuing Education has been awarded the Learner of the Year Award.
In addition to the Learner of the Year award, Principal Mangiafico is the recipient of 2022 CAACE Leader of the Year Award for his notable work as a trailblazer in adult education. This award is presented to a leader who has contributed above and beyond the normal expectations of a leader in adult education, has demonstrated consistent dedication and service to adult education students, and has been involved in innovative programming.
These honors will be conferred upon Ms. Dorman and Dr. Mangiafico at the annual CAACE Conference in March.
