EHPS Families at STEAM Night

Around 200 people from more than 70 EHPS families attended the district’s STEAM Night on March 21. Special guests from Pratt and Whitney led students and parents in fun activities centered on science, technology, engineering, arts and math. The activities such as crafting a bird feeder, building a popsicle stick airplane, and examining a mini astronaut space suit made by Collins Aerospace kept families engaged, entertained, and even inspired.

The event was sponsored by the International Aerospace Machinists (IAM) Union Local 1746 Women’s Committee who took the time to speak about their careers and inspire attendees to pursue STEAM fields.

“Whether you want to be an astronaut, an engineer, a machinist, a carpenter or any trade, even a chef or an accountant, STEAM is your friend,” said Therese Hervieux, IAM LL1746 Women’s Committee Chairperson.

This was the latest family engagement event organized by the EHPS Office of Equity, Partnerships and Achievement. Attendance at district programming has been up this year as families grow more comfortable returning to in person events and see the value in becoming engaged with their schools and community.

"From over 200 EHPS students and family members attending to the programming and activities that were ran and sponsored by the Pratt and Whitney Aerospace Machinist Women’s Union, we could not have asked for a better night. It was a remarkable example of how amazing our families are and how lucky we are to have fostered this partnership with our friends at Pratt and Whitney,” said EHPS Family and Community Partnership Coordinator Alexis Safo-Agyeman.
