East Hartford Public Schools celebrated Read Across America day on Thursday, March 7, 2024. In partnership with the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, dozens of volunteers read aloud to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classrooms at East Hartford’s elementary schools.
These special guest readers read the book Opal Lee and What it Means to Be Free by Alice Faye Duncan and then led classrooms in an activity to reflect on the book.
Guest readers included EHPS Superintendent Thomas Anderson, East Hartford Mayor Connor Martin, State Senator Saud Anwar, State Representative Jason Rojas, and volunteers from Travelers, Pratt & Whitney, Bank of America, American Eagle Financial Credit Union and First Church of Glastonbury.
