East Hartford Public Schools is pleased to announce Mr. Joseph Pearce has been appointed permanent Principal of East Hartford Middle School (EHMS). Mr. Pearce, a longtime East Hartford educator, joined the EHMS community as Assistant Principal in 2019 and has served as Interim Principal since September.
Pearce said, “I am humbled and thrilled to continue to lead at East Hartford Middle School, which has been my home since 2019. We have wonderful students and families who deserve the best middle school experience possible, and I believe they will find that at EHMS.”
Pearce came to East Hartford Public Schools as a Health and Physical Education Teacher in 2010. He taught at both Synergy Alternative High School and Norris Elementary School, where he was named the school’s 2017 Teacher of the Year. Pearce took on several leadership roles in the district, including Summer School Program Director and other Interim Principal positions, before becoming Assistant Principal at EHMS. During his time at EHMS, he has been instrumental in leading his team to build a positive school culture, increase daily student attendance and improve student achievement.
“We look forward to continuing that work together,” said Pearce.
Mr. Pearce is a graduate of East Hartford High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Eastern Connecticut State University and his Master’s in Educational Leadership and Sixth Year Certification (092) from Central Connecticut State University.
East Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Anderson said, “Mr. Pearce has been highly effective this year as the EHMS interim principal in addition to his previous years of service and leadership in our school district. He has earned the support of the staff, students and families and I am proud to appoint him to this permanent position.”
