East Hartford Student Artwork Showcased at Public Library
Visitors to the East Hartford Public Library can now view and enjoy student artwork from EHPS. This month, the first of three planned art installations went up in the children’s department featuring sculptures, paintings and drawings by East Hartford student artists.
"The Children's Department of the East Hartford Public Library has come alive with the artwork of the students from Robert J. O'Brien, Anna E. Norris, and Silver Lane Elementary Schools,” said Catherine Potter, Children’s and Teen Librarian at East Hartford Public Library.
“Several of the pieces are created in response to children's books and it is exciting to see the artist's interpretation of the story they heard,” she said.
Currently, artwork from Norris, O’Brien and Silver Lane Elementary Schools is on display through February 28.
Artwork from Goodwin, Mayberry and O’Connell can be viewed from March 1 through April 4. Artwork from Pitkin, Woodland and Langford will be displayed from April 5 through May 17.
Thomas Scavone, K-12 Supervisor of Fine and Performing Arts at EHPS, hopes this new way to showcase student artwork will allow families to visit the library at their own convenience, and while there learn more about the library and its resources.
He said, “As part of the Fine and Performing Arts Department’s Just Imagine… program initiative, we are celebrating our East Hartford community connections by providing unique artistic and musical opportunities for our students. It is so exciting to partner with the East Hartford Public Library and I thank them for allowing our students to have their artwork displayed in such a beautiful space!”
