East Hartford Public Schools (EHPS) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation for the 4th year in a row. This designation from The NAMM Foundation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, EHPS answered detailed questions about its K-12 music offerings. This included information about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

“This recognition represents our district’s long history of prioritizing music education at all grade levels and our commitment to serving the whole child. Music education promotes creativity, taps into students’ inner talents and ambitions and celebrates our community’s diverse cultural backgrounds,” said EHPS Superintendent Thomas Anderson.

EHPS Fine and Performing Arts Supervisor Andrew Clapsaddle said, “I want to thank the music teachers, family members and students for making music a priority in East Hartford Public Schools. We also want to extend our gratitude to our central office administration and community for their unwavering commitment to ensure all of our students have the opportunity to learn and grow with music.”

2024 marks the 25th year of the Best Communities for Music Education designation. EHPS was one of 975 districts nationwide to be recognized.
