Concerts Returning to EHPS
After two years, East Hartford Public Schools’ music students will be performing again. Our secondary schools are hosting live winter concerts starting this week. Meanwhile, our elementary school students are making concert videos to send home to families.
“Our last live performance we had before COVID was our Winter Concert two years ago,” explained Middle School Music Teacher Beth Hahn-Sneegas.
The time off without concerts is only adding to the anticipation for students and their families.
She said, “Some of them are very excited. Their families have already responded and they can’t wait to be here and that’s all their kid talks about. Some of the kids are anxious and nervous because they’ve never done it.
This month, the East Hartford High School Choir and Orchestra will be performing on December 9. The East Hartford Middle School Chorus, Concert Chorus, Falcon Chorus and Global Jazz and Creative Music Ensemble will be performing on December 15. Students have been working hard in preparation.
"I'm super proud of them," said High School Music Teacher Anna Lasley. "Come out and support our kids."
All guests attending these performances are required to wear masks and practice social distancing. Though tickets are free, attendees are being asked to reserve tickets in advance.
"The kids have been flourishing since our full time return to school. Making music together really brings out their collective sense of community, teamwork and artistry,” said Elementary Instrumental Music Teacher Dana Saccomano. “The return of public performances, both in person and as presented by video recording, excites them and gives them a goal to strive for. After all, their friends and family will see these performances! The kids are proud to show off of their hard work and showcase their performance skills. We couldn't be prouder of them."
