East Hartford Public Schools, with support from our generous community partners and donors, distributed more than 2,200 backpacks filled with school supplies during our annual Back To School Rally.
Parents, family members and students filled the town green on August 10 to get ready for the start of the school year.
“For me it’s more or less about us coming together as a community, making sure that our kids have everything that they need to be in the classroom. But our families need things too. They need to make sure that they have the right resources to keep their families afloat throughout the school year,” said Alexis Safo-Agyeman, Family and Community Partnership Coordinator for EHPS.
The EHPS Office of Equity, Partnerships and Achievement organized dozens of community vendors to share resources and information. Families were encouraged to visit with these organizations before grabbing a backpack.
“I hope people take away that they’re in a special community that cares about them. I hope they take away the connections this community provides. I hope they take away a backpack. And I hope they take away a little bit of energy to come back to School Year 2023 recharged, refreshed and ready to go,” said Superintendent Nathan Quesnel.
