Students are taught the basic theory and skill competencies necessary for entry level into a wide variety of Allied Health occupations. Health professionals from the Greater Hartford area meet with students in the classroom, describing career opportunities in their field. Opportunities for students to job shadow is available.
Allied Health College Career Pathways
(College Career Pathways Credit)
This course prepares students for entry into a post high school technical college or University for a health career. The curriculum includes medical terminology, medical ethics, patient confidentiality, pathophysiology, public speaking, anatomy and physiology. In collaboration with Capital Community College, students accepted into the Allied Health Tech Prep program have the opportunity to earn (free) up to seventeen college credits from Capital Community College while attending East Hartford High School.
Patient Care Assistant
(Meets 2 period per day)
East Hartford’s program is approved by the State Department of Education and is recognized by the State department of Health as being certified to conduct a state approved training program and award certificates which allow graduates to seek employment as Nursing Assistants in local health care agencies upon graduation.
Cooperative partnerships for training include two area extended care facilities and an acute care hospital, Haven Health Care Center, Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center and Hartford Hospital.
Patient Administrative Assistant
This course prepares students for an entry-level multi skilled administrative position now being utilized by many hospitals. This course is taught in cooperation with Hartford Hospital. Students learn work skills in the classroom then practice these skills by working one to one with a preceptor in the hospital setting.
