POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT (PBS)
At Goodwin School, students are learning about the other important "3 R's": Respect, Responsibility and Readiness. There are posters all around the school that provide examples of these three important qualities in different settings: the hallway, the cafeteria, the bathrooms and of course the classroom. Students earn recognition for demonstrating the 3 R's through Goodwin Good News Awards that they bring home. Every time a student earns one of these awards, they earn a chance to win a prize during our next assembly. Our assemblies focus on demonstrating the 3 R's in creative and entertaining ways. We also have "Caught Being Good" awards in which students are entered into a daily raffle during lunch times. This allows for more frequent reinforcement. Additional ways of celebrating success include the monthly Principal's Breakfast, which includes Students of the Month from each classroom.
Our Second Step program is another way for students to learn valuable lessons about empathy, impulse control and anger management. This program is conducted by classroom teachers. It is a violence prevention curriculum that all students can benefit from in helping to deal with difficult situations in a positive and thoughtful manner. If you have ideas that would lenhance our PBS programs, please contact the school. We are always open to suggestions!
