Marwa will be recognized at the CAACE Conference in March.

Congratulations to East Hartford Adult & Continuing Education’s fourth new United States Citizen of the school year, Boguslawa Samsel, who passed her naturalization exam on December 20. Boguslawa’s husband also passed the naturalization exam the same day. Boguslawa is originally from Poland and took classes with Mrs. Kathy Ladd during the fall semester. Thank you to the Samsel Family for an early Christmas present!

ESL Lending Library
Adult Education is pleased to announce the new ESL Lending Library! Every Wednesday evening, ESL students pick out books to bring home for a week. The purpose is to have the students practice their English reading at home and to also practice their family literacy skills with their children. If anyone has any books to donate to our ESL Lending Library, please contact the adult education office.
American Job Center Presentation
Earl Gardner and Jennifer Fields from the American Job Center gave a presentation to the ESL students at the Early Childhood Learning Center at Hockanum School titled, “Improve Your Computer Skills.” In this session, students learned through assessment and online information, what basic skills they need to be successful in the workforce. This is the first in a series of five planned workshops that the American Job Center will be delivering to the students of East Hartford Adult & Continuing Education.
Evening ESL Field Trip
The evening ESL 2 & 3 students recently took a field trip to New Covenant United Methodist Church. Students had dinner at the church’s Community Dinner, which is held every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. Then students went to the adult education classroom and had a family literacy lesson on how to fill out medical forms for themselves and their children.
