Theory of Action #2: Transform Student Culture

STEP Program

At the beginning of the second semester, there were 10 students provided with the opportunity to take advantage of the STEP program. These students all had 3 or more F’s in classes and were already needing to make-up credit in order to be “on-track”. During this time, students were able to participate in smaller classes sizes for their core classes and maintain good standing and attendance when traveling to their respective electives or language classes. The program ended on 3/2/18 for these scholars and data below represents their cumulative results: - 226 Days of student attendance - 3 Total Disciplinary actions resulting in a referral - 90% Grade improvement in class averages - 88% Daily attendance rate - 97.6% Assignment completion rate Additionally, part of the STEP program and communicating with staff and families on student progress. Each day, the aforementioned parties are sent a daily summary outlining the four program pillars of; Attendance, Character, Academics, and Behavior. These are outlined below:

Student progress is also communicated weekly with a report that outlines grades to date, strengths, areas of growth, and next steps. The support from STEP teachers as well as regularly scheduled staff to communicate, input grades, provide curricular support, and maintain flexibility with the intervention needs has been extremely helpful in providing positive results for our students. Thank you for making STEP a successful intervention!
