 academy overview

The Class of 2021 has been described as large (491 students), energetic, active and filled with Hornet Pride. The Class of 2021 has some bragging rights also. Yes, the Class of 2021 has plenty to be proud of in just its first ninety days at EHHS. And if the 2018 part of the school year is anything like the 2017 part of the school year was then the Class of 2021 will be one we talk about for a long time.
What’s on the Class of 2021’s wall?

 2018 Homecoming Spirit Winners

 95% daily attendance rate

 92% students on track in terms of attendance, behavior and grades

 251 honor roll students in quarter 2

 110 freshman or 20% of the class participated in the fall season

And from my viewpoint, I remain confident the Class of 2021 has more to achieve before June.

freshman seminar

Freshman Seminar concludes in a matter of days with successful students earning a .50 credit and the necessary skills to flourish at EHHS and in life. Upon completion of Freshman Seminar students are asked to display all they have learned throughout the semester in the form of a culminating project with a partner or team of students. The project idea was created last year and includes a written component and group presentation. As a reminder to parents, students will either earn a P (pass) or F (fail) for the class as this course does not grade on the traditional grading scales at EHHS. Again, the most important aspect of this class is to provide students with the necessary planning, relationship, goal setting skills to be successful this year and every year thereafter. All students will be completing exit surveys upon completion of the course.

college & career readiness

Just before the Holiday break, over 50% of the 9th-grade students participated in the Honors “Bingo” assembly for all students earning high and general honor status. The celebration culminates the hard work by many scholars at EHHS. Congrats!

team aspire

It is a new year (that could be) filled with many exciting and rewarding possibilities if one is willing to work hard and take risks. During the month of January, Team Aspire students are continuing to work with Connecticut Students for a Dream (C4D)- a statewide student lead network that fights for the rights of immigrant youth and families in CT. C4D liaisons are encouraging our students to achieve their dreams by: helping them set realistic goals for life after high school, assisting with college exploration/application, and helping them navigate the financial aid process. While students are looking towards the future, it is important that they remain focused on the here and now. Team Aspire teachers have been preparing students for mid-term exams and encouraging them to utilize the resources that EHHS offers like the half-day schedule and programs like “Cookies, Cocoa and Cram” to ensure they are preparing effectively. We hope to see you at Report Card Night to discuss your student’s progress, show you the amazing things happening at EHHS, as well as introduce you to various supports that are available

team odyssey

Team Odyssey is excited to BEGIN 2018 with our students! We are BUILDING our skills to BECOME more like sophomores: the expectations are shifting more responsibility on to the students and the emphasis is on making sure that work is completed as best as possible and on time.

As always, the Team Odyssey teachers are here to help. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or concerns and we are looking forward to seeing you at Report Card Night.

team pursuit

Team Pursuit is kicking off 2018 by emphasizing the importance of organization, responsibility, and having a growth mindset. We want students to feel empowered to continue to reach the goals that they set back in September. With Midterms around the corner we really want students to show grit and perseverance. All Team Pursuit teachers will be providing study materials and after school help sessions over the next two weeks.

We encourage students to continue to use their planner, check in with PowerSchool daily, and stay after school when extra time and help is needed.

team 9h

Welcome back and happy 2018 to everyone. Next week are the first midterm exams for your child at EHHS. Students are encouraged to prepare a little each night by organizing their work from the first semester and using review guides given out by their teachers. Exam schedules and information will be posted on our school website. Please continue to check with your child about their Exploravision/Toshiba project which will be entered the first week of February. Team 9H teachers would also like to invite all parents and guardians to Report Card Night on February 1, 2018, from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm. Hope to see you then! In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact any us with questions or concerns about your child.

team phoenix

Happy New Year from Team Phoenix! We are all looking forward to a fresh start in 2018. For most of our students, Midterm Exams will help them to see how far they have come since the start of the year; alternatively, it may also show our team some of the areas for growth as we embark on the second half of the year. Please remind your student to make the most of the January 8th-12th half-day schedule. The extra time is intended to be used for rigorous study.

Students have all been provided with exam review materials (i.e. review packets, practice questions, flash cards, etc.) If your student is tech-savvy, please encourage them to download the (free) Quizlet app for fun activities.

team velocity

Team Velocity is starting off 2018 strong. We are dedicating many conversations to looking at 2nd semester as a fresh start and time to really show understanding and responsibility. Our students are going to be sophomores before we know it and we are devoted to helping them be ready!
For midterms, there is extra help for studying at “Cookies, Cocoa, and Cram” in the library after school (1/8 thru1/11). We hope you will encourage your child to make use of this if they need it. We are also looking forward to seeing everyone at report Card Night on February 1st from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Happy New Year!
