EHPS Theory of Action #2: Build a Rich and Vibrant Learning Culture
Big hornet program
Our 52 Little Hornets will meet their mentors on Friday, January 5th during Connections in the lecture hall. The Big Hornets will have breakfast with their Little Hornet and complete a questionnaire to get to know one another. Additionally, the Big Hornets have been asked to meet up with their mentee in the library to study for mid-term exams on either Monday, January 8th or Tuesday, January 9th.
This month our Connections PLUS students role modeled a discussion circle for our 9th grade advisors. This activity will be used in December.
Our staff groups met on December 1st to review this month’s School Connect activities:
10th grade- Establishing rapport with Teachers
11th grade – Responding to Feedback
12th grade- Building a Budget
The faculty, staff, and students came together on Community Awareness Day to support our town. Thank you for all the donations, organizations, and community partners that helped EHHS accomplish outstanding outcomes:
- 179 seniors engaged in team-building activities with the elementary schools, collectively earning 895 hours of service
- 215 Juniors participated in service trips to various local organizations, earning a total of 1075 hours
- 104 Sophomores raked a total of 15 yards in the pouring rain
In December our 10th grade Promising Hornets were able to meet for lunch with their summer staff and create Holiday cards for the senior center in East Hartford.
The Connections PLUS group will meet again on December 22nd to plan for the 8th grade team visits the week of mid-terms.
On December 2nd, Student Council hosted Breakfast with Santa. It was a wonderfully fun filled event with all types of crafts and a wonderful breakfast. Santa and Mrs. Claus received many wonderful letters. One that touched our heart was from Emilie who is 8 years old and her birthday is on May 7th. Christmas is her favorite holiday. Her "old dog passed away and my family is taking it hard especially me but we moved on and he is still in our heart." She ended it with "I hope you get this letter Santa." Happy Holidays!
