As a Tier II intervention, select Synergy students are assigned to a weekly group such as:
Anger Management Group
In this group we explore the nature of anger, its triggers and detrimental effects. We give options for positive emotional resolution and reinforce skills of coping and communication.
The aim of this group is to encourage the growth of students by learning healthy coping skills and basic interaction skills. Students learn positive communication skills by having respectful debates with the group members. The group members will also become more self-aware of personal beliefs as well as exploring other group members’ perspectives.
Boy’s Group (Healthy Men’s Group)
In this group male students explore personal topics that are exclusive to what young men experience in school and their community. Areas of focus will be on how men are perceived in the news, how the young men portray themselves and lastly, discussions on generalized topics regarding social awareness, social demands and expectations.
Girls Group participants are committed to developing character, leadership, self-confidence, and social consciousness, including the desire and ability to mentor others. The participants’ goals are to graduate from high school, participate in PBIS initiatives, develop peer relationships, and create circles of social/emotional support and trust.
