Board Representative: Mayberry and Silver Lane Elementary Schools

Stephanie Watkins was born and grew up in Manchester, CT.  She has a love for music, the piano, singing, and photography.  Stephanie has two years college experience at UCONN for Music Education/Vocal Performance and has graduated cum laude from Liberty University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology for Addiction Recovery and will continue on to Graduate studies to become an addiction/mental health psychologist.   She moved to East Hartford in 1998 after getting married and has been here ever since.  She previously worked at Cornerstone Real Estate in Hartford/Glastonbury until her first child was born in 2003.  Stephanie is a photographer and is the choir director at Walter Hoving Home in New York.  Walter Hoving Home is a residential recovery house for women who are addicted to drugs and alcohol; it is run by the Teen Challenge organization.  Stephanie is very involved with her church where she has been a youth leader for 10 years, is involved in going to prisons to reach out to prison inmates in need of hope, sings in the choir,  and sings with her family in church and convalescent homes.  Stephanie has four children that go to Mayberry Elementary, East Hartford Middle School, and East Hartford High School.  Stephanie Watkins has been on the Board of Education since November 2011.  Being a mother of four children, she feels that it is important that parents feel that they have a voice in our schools.  She wants to be able to give a parental aspect on Board decisions and bring new ideas and ways of thinking.  East Hartford Schools are gaining ground every day and our schools are becoming an example that other towns want to follow.  Stephanie wants to keep East Hartford Schools moving in a positive direction so our children get the best possible education.
