High School Athletic Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for tryouts, practice, or participation in interscholastic athletic contests, a player must meet all Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) and East Hartford Public School System (EHPS) eligibility requirements and policies:
Age
- May not participate if he/she becomes 20 years of age during the season.
Attendance
- EHPS requires the student athlete to be present at least four (4) periods in order to participate in activities or practices.
Academics
- Athletes must have a minimum of a 1.7 GPA
Enrollment
- Athletes must participate at the school to which he or she is assigned by the Board of Education. Students that attend CIBA, Woodland, or Synergy are also eligible to participate in East Hartford Athletics as they are associated with our school. Students that attend magnet schools that do not offer athletics may also participate for East Hartford Athletic programs if they are a resident of the town.
Forms to be Completed:
Medical Examination
- Must receive a medical examination once every 365 days by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or licensed professional. (student medical examination form)
Parent Permission Form
- Must have a completed 'Parent Permission' form for each season of participation. Both sides must be complete! ( Parent Permission) May not participate at the high school level for more than four seasons in that sport (one season per year) and cannot participate for a period lasting longer than eight consecutive semesters upon entry into grade nine.
Other Requirements
- The CIAC requires all athletes and parents to read and complete a Sudden Cardiac Arrest Sign Off as well as a Concussion Sign Off prior to being added to a team's roster. Please read all aspects of both documents prior to signing.
