East Hartford celebrated Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony at O’Connell IB Elementary School. The ceremony featured student speakers and performances, plus remarks from special guests including Danica Doroski of the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, East Hartford Mayor Mike Walsh, and Chairperson of the East Hartford Beautification Commission Pat Sirois.
Every year, the Beautification Commission helps EHPS plant a tree at one of our schools as part of East Hartford’s Tree City USA designation. East Hartford has held this prestigious designation for 26 years.
In addition to the tree planting, O’Connell dedicated its new little library to Susan Narus, the school’s former media specialist who passed away in 2019. Members of the Narus family were present for the ceremony and helped dedicate “Suzi’s Little Free Library” in her memory.
