Woodland School students of all abilities now have a new place to play. Construction of the school’s $116,000 playscape finished in late December.

East Hartford Public Schools Department of Facilities worked with specialty playground company Ultiplay to develop a playground that would meet the needs of the Woodland community. Principal Licia McKnight also provided ideas and insight on how the playscape should look and what equipment to choose.

The inclusive playscape is located in Woodland’s courtyard and is enclosed by new fencing. Among its features are an accessible swing set and sensory-rich activity panels.

Principal McKnight said, “Watching our students enjoy our new playground gives me and my staff so much joy.  It was a piece of what was missing when I first started.  All of our students deserve an opportunity to enjoy the amenities that a playground provides. Especially one that not only provides an opportunity for our students to play, but also helps meet any sensory needs that they may have.”
