East Hartford High School Senior Chidimma Chukwuocha has been admitted to Pomona College and awarded a full, four-year scholarship through the 2024 QuestBridge National College Match.
This program connects high-achieving high school seniors from low-income backgrounds with full scholarships to 52 of the nation’s top colleges. Chidimma was one of 2,627 students matched out of more than 25,500 applicants nationwide.
“My family and I would like to express so much gratitude to QuestBridge! To receive this scholarship means so much to us as being able to afford college has been a concern of my family,” said Chidimma.
Last year, her sister Chimuanya was also matched with Pomona College through QuestBridge. Chidimma said witnessing her sister’s experience with both the scholarship program and her first semester at Pomona was motivation to pursue a similar path.
“Learning about this opportunity through my older sister increased my interest and hope in achieving higher levels of education,” said Chidimma. “l will never forget the look of joy and relief my parents had when she told them the news of being matched and what it meant for our family.”
Match Scholarship Recipients are admitted early to QuestBridge college partners. The Match Scholarship is made up of a generous financial aid package provided by the college that covers the full cost of attendance, including tuition, housing and food, books and supplies, and travel expenses.
Chidimma said, “Looking back, I really want to thank East Hartford High School for helping me become a better writer through its productive writing classes, a significant component in the QuestBridge National College Match application process.”
At East Hartford High School, Chidimma is President of the Spanish Honors Society, a track and field athlete, and a member of the National Honors Society.
She plans to pursue a degree in Biology in order to achieve her goal of being a cardiothoracic surgeon.
