3rd graders at Mayberry launch One Book, One School program

EHPS is building a community of readers through its new One Book, One School program.

Through a generous partnership with the Larson Family Foundation and the East Hartford Rotary Club, every 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade family is receiving a copy of Cleo Edison Oliver, Playground Millionaire by Sundee T. Frazier on April 4 and will be asked to read it together at home over the next few weeks. The story and this program are intended to engage East Hartford’s youth in dialogue about financial literacy, friendship, and the defining aspects of family and community.

During this special, communitywide reading event, all students and families will follow along together through our digital read-alouds. These feature exciting guest readers, including our administrators, community partners, Mayor Mike Walsh and Governor Ned Lamont.

"Please make the time so that your family can participate in this special activity. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity," said Sonya Stemmer, Supervisor of the Office of Equity, Partnerships & Achievement.

The district will celebrate the book and Financial Literacy Month with a Family Math & Financial Literacy Night on Thursday, April 2, 2022 from 5:00 - 7:00pm at East Hartford Middle School. In partnership with Liberty Bank, we will bring our IM Math Curriculum and the importance of Financial Literacy to life for our 3rd-8th grade students and their families.

Join us to enjoy dinner, learn about Illustrative Math, play a math game, explore financial literacy and take home some great gifts and giveaways to continue the learning! Click here to register.
