Dr. Anthony Mangiafico, principal of East Hartford Adult & Continuing Education, has been named the national “Administrator of the Year” by the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE). He will be presented with the national award at the COABE Conference in April in Seattle. Only one leader from across the country is selected for this prestigious award, which also includes a cash prize of $10,000.
“I share this award with all my Adult Education colleagues across the state of Connecticut,” Dr. Mangiafico said. “We are a small, but mighty state that leads the way forward in terms of education at all levels. I also need to thank my East Hartford Adult Education team who work tirelessly and passionately for all of our adult learners. I continue to learn from all of them daily, and it is an honor to work with such a dedicated group of professionals.”
Kathryn Ladd, Adult Education teacher and one of Dr. Mangiafico’s staff nominators said, “Dr. Mangiafico is constantly monitoring every aspect of our program, using data to determine our strengths and weaknesses. His staff meetings should be called collaborative sessions as he is constantly asking for our input on how we can improve. Anthony differs in that he actually listens to his staff and puts suggestions into place with the staff leading the way to implement, assess and monitor the progress of such suggestions. He works tirelessly as an advocate for our program, spending hours securing grants to assist us in not only maintaining our programs, but improving them.”
John Bergman, Program Facilitator, and another one of the nominators said, “Dr. Mangiafico encourages his staff to take on leadership roles and helps them develop their craft. He sees potential in everyone.”
Dr. Mangiafico is the President of the Connecticut Association for Adult & Continuing Education (CAACE). Earlier this year, he won the 2022 CAACE Leader of the Year Award.
