The REALITIES 18-22 Transition Program, located at East Hartford High School, supports students as they transition from school to work and adult life. The program provides students with transferable employability skills while also developing functional skills needed to transition to adulthood with increased independence. Students receive instruction both in the community and classroom setting. A Special Education Supervisor, two certified Special Education teachers, a Transition Coordinator, and team of Paraeducators and Vocational Coaches collaborate to support the needs of each individual student.
The program focuses on vocational skills and daily living skills. Students learn about a variety of relevant topics, including: job readiness, career exploration, obtaining employment, social skills, self-care, health/fitness, meal preparation, consumer skills, money management, home maintenance, safety, and accessing transportation.
