Dear East Hartford Public Schools Community,

This message is to inform you of a recent cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to data within PowerSchool, our district’s Student Information System (SIS).

What Happened:

  • On Tuesday, January 7th, PowerSchool notified multiple districts of a data breach to its customer support portal
  • An authorized party gained access to certain customer data, including East Hartford Public Schools’ data, through a compromised credential in PowerSchool’s customer support portal. This includes data related to students, families and educators.

Steps Taken:

  • PowerSchool immediately engaged its cybersecurity response team and law enforcement
  • The compromised credential was deactivated, and access to the affected portal has been restricted.
  • PowerSchool does not anticipate the data being shared or made public, and believes the data was deleted without any further replication or dissemination
