East Hartford Public Schools has selected Benjamin Brown to replace Roberta Pratt, the district’s current Chief Information and Technology Officer, who is retiring at the end of June. Brown is currently the Chief Technology Officer for the Darlington County School District in South Carolina. He will join the EHPS team in mid-June.
EHPS Superintendent Thomas Anderson said, “We are excited to welcome Benjamin Brown, along with his experience and expertise, to East Hartford. I am confident he will further enhance our district’s systems and operations to meet the demands of our increasingly technological world.”
Brown’s career includes more than 25 years as an educator and information technology leader. For the last five years, he has led technology and operations in Darlington County to support student learning, school safety and district-wide efficiency. This includes overseeing information technology (IT), media services, data and analytics, instructional technology, student information systems, and cybersecurity.
He previously served as the Executive Director of Information Technology for Durham Public Schools and the Chief Technology Officer and Director of Career and Technical Education for Northampton County Schools, both in North Carolina. Prior to leading IT departments, he served as a middle school assistant principal and a career and technical education teacher for grades 6-12.
Brown received his associate's degree in computer science information technology and his bachelor's degree in liberal studies from Limestone College in South Carolina. He received his master's in educational supervision and administration, as well as his educational specialist degree, from Cambridge College in Massachusetts. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education from Aspen University in Colorado.
“I was drawn to this position because of my strong dedication to promoting digital innovation and equity in education,” said Brown. “I’m eager to collaborate with East Hartford’s exceptional team to cultivate a secure digital environment that supports student-centered technology and 21st-century learning, as a result, empowering both our students and community for today and the future."
