Overview

East Hartford Public Schools is fortunate to have Family Resource Centers located in two elementary schools; Mayberry and Silver Lane. Although the centers are located in these schools, our services are available to any family living in East Hartford.

We believe that healthy development and good education begins at birth. We strive to provide support and positive programming to support parents in their role as their child's most important teacher. Stimulating experiences in the first three years of a child's life are key to future success in school and family life.

Services Offered:

Playgroups

Playgroups provide an opportunity for parents and their young children to participate with other families in a structured program which includes free play, snack, arts and crafts, songs and story time.

Personal Visits-Parents as Teachers

Certified Parent Educators are available to meet with you in your home or in our child-friendly classroom. Questions related to child development will be answered and parents will be taught and encouraged to use different ways to support their child's healthy growth and development.

Parent Workshops

Parenting workshops are offered throughout the year on various topics of interest. Recent workshops have focused on nutrition, discipline, healthy eating and the value of early literacy.

Lending Library

The Family Resource Centers have a variety of books, toys, games, CDs and parent resources available for families to borrow.

Positive Youth Development

The Family Resource Centers run the Friend to Friend Program at our Silver Lane site. Our Child Associates meet with children in grades K, 1 and 2 in our child-friendly classroom. The program is designed to enhance the child's self-esteem and develop social and emotional skills needed for successful learning.
