Biography
Benjamin Brown has over 25 years of experience as an educator and information technology leader, with a career dedicated to advancing student success, school safety, and operational excellence. Before joining East Hartford Public Schools, he served as the Chief Information Officer for Darlington County, South Carolina. There he oversaw a broad portfolio that included information technology, media services, data and analytics, instructional technology, student information systems, and cybersecurity.
Before this role, Brown held leadership positions in North Carolina, including Executive Director of Information Technology for Durham Public Schools and Chief Technology Officer and Director of Career and Technical Education for Northampton County Schools. His career began educational in IT & Technology and led to the classroom, where he taught career and technical education to students in grades 6–12 and later served as a middle school assistant principal.
Brown holds an associate degree in Computer Science Information Technology and a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from Limestone College in South Carolina. He earned a master’s degree in Educational Supervision and Administration and an Educational Specialist degree from Cambridge College in Massachusetts. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education at Aspen University in Colorado.
Outside of his professional life, Ben enjoys spending time with his wife, children, grandson and extended family. He is also a passionate sports fan and finds joy in playing the piano and DJing in his spare time.
