Unified Sports Program

Fall Sports - Soccer Schedule        Winter Sports - Basketball Schedule

There is no greater joy than participating in a team sport. East Hartford High School participates in Unified Sports in the areas of Soccer (fall) and Basketball (winter). Unified Sports, a CIAC and Special Olympic Sporting Program is organized so students with and without disabilities play a CCC Sport against teams from other schools with the same make up. Depending on the student’s abilities, each team with student athletes and student partners, is geared to enhance their abilities. Students play with modified rules.

East Hartford High School maintains 3 indoor Soccer Teams. Over 45 students, both athletes and partners participate in this program. Students are required to attend at least 8 practices. One Scrimmage is also scheduled prior to attending the CCC Tournament. East Hartford High School Hosts the CIAC Soccer Tournament in the fall of each year. This event brings over 400 individuals to East Hartford High School and the students respond. Dozens of EHHS students volunteer to help with the event. This year the teams were served a complete Italian dinner made by the Foods II Class taught by Mrs. Juleson-Scopino. In 2003, to recognize their contribution to the Unified Sports Program, The National Association of Student Councils and the National Organization on Disability awarded the East Hartford High School Student Council an award for their efforts to involve students with disabilities in leadership and other student activities. This was a national award and the only one given that year.

East Hartford High School also maintains 3 levels of basketball. Students must attend 8 practices and play in at least one scrimmage prior to tournament. The Level 2 basketball team also is involved in league games. These games allow the teams to play at a more competitive level with only a few modifications to the rules such as no backcourt pressure and a 50/50 scoring rule. The Level 2 team is a travel team, which allows students travel to different schools. These students also participate in a CCC Tournament. Over the past few years, East Hartford High School has done quite well at this level bring home two first place trophies.

Also new this year are the wind suits donated by the Ragazzi Family. These suits really make our students look as great as they feel about being involved in a sport.
