The Science Department faculty at East Hartford High School provides instruction which reflects our belief that experiencing the scientific enterprise is vital for every student. Our curriculum allows all students opportunities to develop scientific literacy through laboratory experiments, field studies, and research by using the scientific method.
Scientifically literate individuals develop a solid base of facts and concepts through hands-on learning. Scientifically literate individuals use science knowledge and technology in daily problem-solving and decision-making. We believe that our science instruction helps our students appreciate and value the physical and living world and become responsible caretakers of their community.
Our curriculum reflects the Connecticut Science Curriculum Framework of Program Goals and Content Standards. It encourages inquiry and allows students to acquire scientific skills in physical, life, and earth/space sciences which will prepare them for responsible citizenship. All of the courses in our program, including our many electives, are designed to stimulate the interest of all students and inspire them to be lifelong investigators filled with scientific curiosity and objectivity.
Science education means understanding science through inquiry techniques in life, physical and earth/space sciences taught regularly at every grade level. Students will become scientifically literate and understand how science, technology and society interrelate. Students will see relevance in science and build on scientific principles learned at each grade level. Science education requires a commitment from all educators to maintain a relevant and effective curriculum and develop lessons designed to meet or exceed the state and national science standards.
