Chemistry, Sophomore Honors

Prerequisite: Freshman Biology and Algebra I (with “B” or better).
Description: Major emphasis is placed on chemical principles with some consideration given to descriptive chemistry. Standard and advanced laboratory activities and procedures are included to meet the needs of those college-bound students who may have an interest in pursuing a career in the physical sciences. This early preparation in chemistry also provides an opportunity to take advanced courses in physics and chem¬istry in high school.

Description: This Biology course incorporates laboratory activities to explore key biological concepts in chemistry, cell study, genetics, and ecology. Lab time is designed to enhance student understanding though data analysis. observations. and written responses to questions relating to each lab investigation. Content and Core Performances activities are incorporated throughout the year to prepare students for the April CAPT Test.

Description: Topics include ecology, cells and reproduction. DNA and genetics, taxonomy, and human body systems. Laboratory investigations will be an integral part of this course. Description: This basic course includes study of the structure and function of the cells.
