October Principal’s Message

With autumn and October here, we welcome the cooler weather but miss the sunshine in the evenings. Arriving and leaving work in the dark leaves me yearning for the sunshine. I try to make the most of the sunshine throughout the weekends. We are in full swing at EHHS in the middle of the first quarter.

  • Staff was involved in a Faculty Workshop recently about positive ways to re-engage students who are exhibiting off-task behavior. Additionally, we have anew chairperson for our Positive Behavior Intervention Supports Committee to lead us through the year in our substantial programs to celebrate students. I am looking forward to the Student of the Month breakfast in mid-October.

  • We are very excited about second year of West Ed Reading Apprenticeship Program at EHHS. This program is focused on metacognitive strategies for students. These types of strategies help students understand what they read better. As students read a variety of texts, they need to be able to think about their thinking. This helps to make connections to everything they know.

  • We are one month into our revised attendance tracking system. We continue to improve our communication between all staff members. Our attendance officers are working diligently to ensure any chronic absent students have a plan to remediate their attendance patterns.

  • Our students have been performing at a high level in and out of the classroom. All of our programs and offerings for students are being implemented and monitored for effective ness and fidelity.

  • A little over 25% of students were represented at Open House: September 17th. Home Access Center continues to be a great way to be informed of student progress. Also, Progress reports were sent home with students on September 25th. Additionally, the Under 70 Report phone calls are being completed by EHHS staff to assist in improving student academic progress.
