English Language Learners

Trip to New York City

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

English Language Learners (ELL)

ELL classes are free to all East Hartford residents

Guest speakers are part of the ESL program. On Wednesday, November 5, 2014, the ELL civics class received a visit from Mrs. Janet Burlingame, our citizenship teacher. Mrs. Burlingame began her presentation by explaining some of the questions that will be on the naturalization test. She then went over the naturalization forms as well as the interview that will be needed for naturalization. Her visit ended with a warning to the students about immigration scams, and where in Hartford the students can call for additional help. We thank Mrs. Burlingame for sharing her knowledge and expertise with us.

We offer both beginner and intermediate ELL instruction. For students with some English skills, we offer instruction in beginning reading, writing, listening, and speaking. These courses will cover writing notes to your child’s teacher, business and personal letters, filling out checks and forms, reading recipes and more.

Students are tested for initial placement.

Classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017 – through Friday,May 5, 2017. 6:00 to 8:00pm.
