Bryan R. Hall was born in Hartford and went to Hartford public schools through the sixth grade.  His parents came from the South, and he is the grandson of slaves.  For six years, he was a Project Concern child, being bused to Farmington every day; he graduated from Farmington High School , where he had been welcomed with protest signs in 1971, playing both basketball and football.  He went on to Central Connecticut State University, taking courses at Capital and Manchester Community Colleges and Charter Oak State College.  He is an ordained minister, and holds a certificate in the Black Ministries Program at the Hartford Seminary.  From 1982 to 2001, he was a police officer in Hartford, retiring as senior motor cycle officer.  For the last eight years he has worked with the Connecticut Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America, where he is now field director.  His community involvements are legion: police prevention board, City of Waterbury; Manchester Police Activities League (president for six years); East Hartford YMCA Board of Directors; Sons of Thunder Coalition (Man of the Year Award, 2007); Rotary International; American Red Cross (volunteer of the year, 2004); basketball coach; and much more.

Why are you a Board of Education Member?:
Mr. Hall has been on the Board of Education since February, 2009.  He wants to see test scores rise; more students going on to higher education; and, with time, teachers hired who reflect the changing population of East Hartford.  He wants to see the Board adopt a mission statement that all can believe in: “we all need the same vision.”  He adds that he tries to be fair and is not a micromanager.
