Cynthia E. Ritchie began her employment as an elementary school teacher in Enfield where she taught kindergarten, grade two and grade 5. She later taught in a co-taught inclusionary model fourth grade classroom in Old Saybrook. Soon after, Mrs. Ritchie transitioned into the role of Remedial Reading/Language Arts Consultant and EL/Title 1 Coordinator for grades 4-8 in Old Saybrook, a position she served in for 9 years. Later, Mrs. Ritchie was appointed a Building Level Specialist/Language Arts Department Head for grades 4-8 in Old Saybrook, a position she held for one year at which time she was appointed the Elementary School Principal in Salem, CT. Mrs. Ritchie served as the Principal for four years and was then promoted to a central office administrative position of Director of Student Achievement, Academic Programs and Professional Development for the school district.
Mrs. Ritchie brings with her a wealth of knowledge and background in regards to early literacy and to the development of curriculum, instruction and assessment. In her previous employment she oversaw the adoption and implementation of the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics and provided significant professional development to teachers in her district on student centered learning and differentiated instruction. She also served as the district testing coordinator and therefore oversaw the coordination of the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) and CT Mastery Test (CMT).
