Mr. Nathan Quesnel is currently the Superintendent of Schools for East Hartford Public Schools in East Hartford, Connecticut. Mr. Quesnel has served the district for the past 13 years in a variety of roles including high school English Teacher, Coach, High School Assistant Principal and Middle School Principal. He understands the district’s strengths, needs and most importantly—students. Mr. Quesnel’s core focus as the district superintendent is improving all schools to meet the needs of all children. His vision is for every day, for every child, an exceptional learning opportunity. Mr. Quesnel believes that great results follow high expectations and he works tirelessly to set this bar high in East Hartford. Mr. Quesnel is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, BS, MA and Southern Connecticut State University, 6th Year. He most recently received his 093 certification from Central Connecticut State University.
Mr. Quesnel attributes the success he has enjoyed at the district and building level to the quality of people he has had the opportunity to surround himself with. Most recently he was nominated by Governor Malloy to co-chair the Common Core Task Force that was charged to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders to review implementation of the standards and develop a series of recommendations for moving the state forward. Mr. Quesnel was recognized as the Top Work Place Outstanding Leader by the Hartford Courant and as a 40 under 40 recipient by the Hartford Business Journal. In addition, under Mr. Quesnel’s leadership, East Hartford Public Schools received its third consecutive Top Work Place Award as determined by an anonymous survey of staff regarding their perceptions of their employer. In 2009 as a middle school principal, he was recognized by the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) as Connecticut’s outstanding first year middle school principal while the school was recognized by both CAS as having an “Exemplary School Climate” and by ConnCAN on their annual “Top 10 List for School Improvement.”
Beyond his work within the school system, Mr. Quesnel has consulted on the national level on topics including organizational development and teacher evaluation systems. In addition, Mr. Quesnel has participated in statewide work regarding the development of safe and healthy school cultures and climate.
On a personal level, Mr. Quesnel is the proud father of six children with a set of one year old twin boys at home. He enjoys spending his free time with his family. His personal hobbies include fitness, golf and outdoor activities.
Mr. Quesnel is excited to continue to serve the East Hartford Public Schools community and the great work that continues through collaboration.
