To all certified teachers,
East Hartford Public Schools has partnered with an organization, Fund for Teachers, which provides educators the financial resources needed to pursue self-designed professional learning experiences that create enhanced learning environments for teachers, their students and the community in which you work. This past school year we had 17 East Hartford teachers receive grants allowing them to travel to places such as Vietnam, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Great Britain, Ireland, France, Hawaii, California, Alaska, Colorado, New Hampshire, Washington, D.C., and Orlando.
Fund for Teachers is hoping to receive applications from teachers across Connecticut to fund hundreds of summer fellowship opportunities for the summer of 2018. Individual teachers may apply for up to $5,000 and teams may apply for up to $10,000.
To be eligible you must be employed as a certified teacher, Pre-K to Grade 12 with at least 3 years of experience and spend at least 50% of your work week in direct instruction with students. The application will be available October 1st and the deadline is in January 2018. This is an incredible opportunity for you to develop your own professional learning plan that can be supported with funding! I’ve attached two documents summarizing the program and also providing you with examples of what Connecticut teachers are doing this summer with funding from Fund for Teachers to give you an idea of the types of opportunities you can pursue. More information will be shared in the coming months but we wanted staff to begin thinking about this opportunity and drafting your application if you are interested. It is also a great way to tie in your TEVAL goals with your professional development.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions as I have contacts at Fund for Teachers that should be able to help us. Thank you.
