Attendance Meeting Protocol

Connecticut School law requires parents, or other persons having control of children, to ensure children attend school regularly during the hours and terms the public school is in session. It has been well-documented that regular attendance is a key factor in the success a student achieves in school. For semester courses, students cannot exceed ten absences per class, per semester. When a student exceeds ten absences, s/he must attend a hearing (held quarterly). At these meetings, the following may be discussed:

● Necessary documentation for absences
● Community service options/requirements
● Afterschool credit recovery options
● Requirements to make-up missing work

Our goal is to ensure every child is attending school, every day. To facilitate this, the following process will be followed:

  1. Regular attendance collected
  2. Every five weeks, parents will be notified of attendance issues
  3. Student Attendance Recovery Plan (SARP) will be developed for students who are absent 30% of the time or more
  4. SARP implemented
  5. Quarterly, the Synergy Attendance Team will hold attendance meetings to review student attendance plans including situations that require a student attendance hearing (SAH)
  6. At semester SAHs, student credit recovery plans will be developed (see recovery grid)
