Stephanie Watkins was born and grew up in Manchester. She has a love for music, the piano, singing photography and soccer. Stephanie has two years of college experience at UCONN for Music Education/Vocal Performance. Due to life circumstances, she had to put college on hold for a while but intends to finish her degrees when all of her children start school full time. She moved to East Hartford in 1998 after getting married.   Her and her husband started a Heating & Cooling Business, Watkins Mechanical, LLC, on Tolland Street in East Hartford. She previously worked at Cornerstone Real Estate in Hartford/Glastonbury until her first child was born in 2003. Now she has four children and has decided to become a full-time, stay-at-home mom along with helping run their family business. Stephanie is very involved with her church where she has been a Youth Leader for 10 years, she sings in the choir, her family sings frequently in church and she goes to prisons to reach out to prison inmates. She is also highly involved in her children's school, Mayberry, where she has been the PTA President.

Why are you a Board of Education Member?

Stephanie Watkins has been on the Board of Education since November 2011. Being a mother of four children, she feels that it's important that parents feel that they have a voice in our schools. She wants to be able to give a parental aspect on board decisions and bring new ideas and ways of thinking. East Hartford Schools are gaining ground everyday and our schools are becoming an example that other towns want to follow. She wants to keep East Hartford Schools moving in a positive direction so our children get the best possible education.
